Udyam Registration

Online MSME registration system that replaced the older Udyog Aadhaar in July 2020.

Udyam is the government portal where any business meeting MSME criteria registers to access MSME benefits. Registration is free, requires only PAN + Aadhaar, and produces a Udyam Registration Certificate (URC) within 24-48 hours.

The URC is the proof of MSME status that banks demand for collateral-free loans, that government tenders require for MSME-reserved bids on GeM, and that the MSE Samadhaan portal accepts for filing delayed-payment complaints.

Unlike old Udyog Aadhaar, Udyam auto-fetches data from PAN, GST, and ITR filings — the system can detect if you've crossed MSME thresholds and prompt re-classification.

India context

For Indian SMBs working with corporates, Udyam registration is now table stakes. Without it, large buyers can ignore the 45-day payment rule. With it, you have legal teeth via MSE Samadhaan to recover payments.

Examples

  • A Bangalore SaaS at ₹4Cr turnover registers Udyam, gets a URN like UDYAM-KR-03-0012345.
  • When an enterprise client delays a ₹5L invoice 60+ days, the SMB files at MSE Samadhaan with the URN as proof.

FAQ

Do I need GST registration for Udyam?

GST is auto-fetched if your business has it; if you're below GST threshold, you can still register Udyam without GSTIN.

What if I register a wrong category?

Update the registration with correct details — system allows revisions. Misrepresentation can void the URC.

How often do I update Udyam?

Annual data is auto-updated from your filings. If you cross thresholds significantly, the system prompts re-classification.
